A dry basement is expected, so Kendel Homes employs a dimpled waterproof membrane wrap which is made from tough, long lasting plastic that keeps exterior moisture out. The dimples in the membrane create a drainage space that allows the wall to breathe. It keeps 100% of the headwater pressure off the face of the wall. This space allows moisture to condensate outward on to the membrane. By gravity, the moisture then falls to the footing drain for removal.
Because a stud connects the inside of a house to the outside, it can act as a bridge for heat to escape. Thermal bridging through the studs significantly degrades the thermal performance of the wall. Due to Lambton’s climate, Kendel Homes chooses to use exterior rigid foam sheathing to improve the wall’s performance. Installing rigid foam insulation over wall framing reduces this thermal bridging, raises the R-value of the wall by as much as 35%, and can eliminate or reduce air leaks.
Kendel Homes adds to the exterior texture of the house by installing a natural looking Permacon stone product accented with Hardie Board board and batten siding. This gives all Kendel Homes builds a richness that you will be proud to come home to day after day. The contrast of the brick/stone with the Hardie Board gives a timeless modern farmhouse feel.
